The Osborne County Weed Department consists of 3 empolyees, 2 full time and 1 part time. The Weed Department operates in Osborne County under the County Commissioners, and is governed by the Kansas State Board of Agriculture.
Duties of the Weed Department are to recognize noxious weeds in the county, then promote control and eradication of these noxious weeds through the enforcement of the Kansas Noxious Weed Law.
The noxious weeds in Kansas are: Kudzu, Field Bindweed, Russian Knapweed, Hoary Cress, Canada Thistle, Quackgrass, Leafy Spurge, Bur Ragweed, Pignut, Musk Thistle, Johnsongrass and Sericea Lespedeza. County option noxious weeds are: Multofolra Rose, and Bull Thistle.
Our Department handles chemical sales on a cost-share basis for all private landowners in Osborne County. We also operate 2 spray trucks to control noxious weeds on all county right of way's, State highways, and several township right of way's in Osborne County.
The Department of Agriculture requires surveys and inspections of designated sections of the 576,000 acres in Osborne County throughout the year. Reports are then made from this data and the Weed Director's input, and sent annually to the State
